Housing Admission and Occupancy Specialist
Purpose of Position: Under general supervision, performs necessary tasks for proper and timely implementation of ONC Tribal Housing admission and occupancy activities related to the Native American Housing Assistance and Self-Determination Act (NAHASDA) and Housing Improvement Program (HIP).
Responsibilities:
- Maintain and refine admission, occupancy, continued occupancy, and eviction policies for NAHASDA and BIA HIP Programs.
- Maintain and refine the housing application and admission process for homebuyers, tenants, residents, and unit rehabilitation/modernization recipients.
- Determine and apply applicable eligibility criteria for tenants, residents, and unit rehabilitation/modernization recipients.
- Calculate and maintain house payments, rents, and payback agreements.
- Document required and applicable verification applicant information.
- Maintain homebuyer, tenant and applicant files in compliance with existing policies and applicable program regulations.
- Know how eviction policies should be applied.
- Provide counseling services for applicants with respect to the relative program(s) regarding requirements, budgeting, money management and community resources and services. Conduct interviews and orientations for prospective program participants.
- Assist in preparing the NAHASDA annual Indian Housing Plan (IHP) and the HIP applications.
- Maintain waiting lists for the various ONC housing related programs.
- Maintain established departmental policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, and safety.
- Perform other job related duties as assigned.
Non-Essential Accountabilities:
- Participate in educational programs and in-service meetings and trainings as assigned.
- Attend meetings as required.
Qualifications: The incumbent must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The responsibilities listed above are representative of the knowledge , skills and ability required. Bilingual Yup’ik/English preferred. Prior experience in HUD/HIP low-income housing program admission and occupancy experience preferred. High school diploma or equivalent required. Ability to use computerized word processing, database, and spreadsheet required. Position requires positive interaction with current and prospective housing assistance clients.
