In the Yup’ik culture, the Qasgiq has always been a place to learn the tools of survival, living well and being a good person in order to live a healthy balanced adult life.  This program focuses on promoting healthy families through traditional Yup’ik values and lifestyle. A 12-session program on parenting covers topics from introduction and pregnancy to marriage, family at home, and healing from historical trauma.

Session 5: Tuvqakiyaraq – Teachings on Hunting/Gathering and Sharing 

Session 6: Boys’s and Girls’ roles

Session 7: Yuuyaram Navellra – Historical Trauma

Session 8: Yuuyaraq – Healing

Session 9: Kassuucaram Inerquutai – Teachings of Marriage preparation and Relationships

Session 10: Kassutelleq, Irniuryaraq – Marriage and Family at Home with Parents

Session 11: Ellmikungluteng – Leave Home with Family

Session 12: Qaqiulluta – Celebration

A Certificate of Completion is given to individuals who have successfully participated in the twelve Healthy Family Sessions.
